Sekwoje w Kalifornii w niebezpieczeństwie - Giant Sequoia Redwoods at Risk |
|
It's horrible that "the lungs of the planet", trees, are suffering from second hand smoke. It's probably worthwhile to distinguish between coast redwood, the tallest trees on Earth, that live near the coast in very small remaining habitat in California and Oregon, and giant sequoia, the largest (not as tall as but more massive than redwoods) that live in the Western Sierra and are subject to the Central Valley's dust and smog. But the oldest trees - the oldest living things on the planet (though there's some debate)- are the ancient bristlecone pines that live in very limited habitat in California's White Mountains and a few in Nevada. They can live to be more than 4000 years old but grow not much more than a foot in diameter. |
