To celebrate World Environment Day 2009, PROJECT ACT ECO (Gimnazjum nr 2 -Secondary School, Zakopane, Poland) organized an environmental awareness event (on three consecutive days) addressed to students from various schools, their parents and other local community members.
The event includes:
• Exhibition on environmental issues locally and world wide, mainly focusing on: the importance of trees, problem of climate change, renewable energy, recycling, raising awareness against home burning of waste, encouraging consumers to cut back on plastic shopping bags in favour of reusable formats.
• Lectures and workshops “Together for Sustainability” by Aeris Futuro Foundation for school students and adults (how to reduce carbon footprint).
• Lecture on “Problems of Protection of Polish Flora” by H. Kuciel, a representative of Institute of Nature Conservation – Polish Academy of Sciences - Kraków
• Finale of Zakopane schools art competition “Dangerous Health Effects of Home Burning of Plastic and Waste” - the winners’ prizes donated by the Town Mayor, media patronage WATRA.pl
• Finale of Gimnazjum nr 2 “School Ecological - Science Education” competition- the winners’ prizes donated by SEWiK Zakopane.
